The Democratic governor’s relationship with the labor movement is stressed by a nurses’ strike and chief judge selection.

Roughly 7,100 nurses are poised to walk off the job Monday.

Nursing unions confirmed the strike vote on Thursday. The strike could involve some 17,000 nurses.

“Nurses fall prey to the same misinformation that non-medical professionals do,” one oncology nurse said.

The issue gained a new sense of urgency during the COVID-19 pandemic as reports of understaffed intensive care units and nursing homes reached the public.

A revived bill could add 70,000 nurses to New York but faces opposition from the state and lobbyists.

The report was not well-received by the nurses' union.

"I can tell you truthfully, I’ve cried almost every day."

"We’ve been in the NICU since the 26th of February," one mother said.

"My liberty, my interests and consequently my civil rights were ignored because some ambitious governors saw an opportunity to use an age-old political tactic: fear."
