The MTA says its latest enforcement blitz against bus fare evaders is showing early, though modest, signs of success.
“We have actually designed this new signaling system so that it could accommodate longer trains,” MTA Chair Janno Lieber said.
The governor says the move is meant to reassure riders, even as some say it’s an overreaction to recent crimes.
Tolls include $1.25 for cabs and $15 for passenger vehicles during the day, with few exemptions.
“If we ignore these threats we risk the survival of the system itself – and New York,” a new MTA report states.
Straphangers are calling on the state to invest more into the MTA.
In a memo sent to bus operators, the MTA notes the center and rear doors on buses should no longer automatically open when the bus stops.
The MTA is creating a "blue-ribbon" panel to examine ways to reduce fare and toll evasion
Congestion pricing is supposed to start in 2023.
The second phase would include subway stops at 106th Street, 116th Street and 125th Street.
