The relocation of the 1960s sculpture called "Orpheus and Apollo" was proposed by architecture critic Paul Goldberger.


The Preservation League of New York has put "Orpheus and Apollo" on its "Seven To Save" list, a biennial compilation of the most at-risk historic places in the state.


The five-ton, 190-foot-long, 39-foot-high sculpture piece by Richard Lippold was commissioned for the concert hall when it was first built in 1962.


The project, which is slated to begin in 2022, comes after years of unrealized plans to remedy the notoriously uneven listening experience in the venue.
