A federal appeals court ruling has cast fresh doubt on the Obama-era program that allows young immigrants to live, work and study in the United states without facing removal.

After a federal judge ordered the Trump administration to fully restore the Obama-era program, applicants may have to wait longer than usual due to COVID-related delays.

For the first time since 2017, immigrants can apply for the program that provides work authorization and protection from deportation.

“Justice prevailed today — not just for Dreamers, but for all Americans,” said Attorney General Letitia James in a statement Friday.

A New York federal judge’s ruling means undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children should be allowed to apply for the program Trump ended in 2017.
