Calling all fabulously follicalled gentsâand ladies!âfor the Coney Island Beard and Moustache Competition, celebrating stupendous 'staches and badass beards. It's the 6th year of the hairy fest, which crowns winners in categories like Best Natural Moustache and Best Fake Beard. An award for Worst In Show is also given out so drag your scraggly stubble out to Coney Island for a shot at fame.

Literature and food join forces at DISH: The Recipe Project, a "4-course feast of readings and stories." On tap this month: a tasting of specialty brews by 29er Brews and a reading from Tomorrow There Will Be Apricots by author Jessica Soffer. For the main course, collaborators on The Recipe Projectâa cookbook, essay collection and albumâdo readings of recipes and stories by the likes of Mario Batali and David Chang and sing a selection of songs included in the unique book.

The August Strindberg Repertory Theatre brings the Swedish author and playwright's work Mr. Bengt's Wife to English speaking audiences for the first time ever. The play follows a young woman named Magrit as she escapes a life of abuse in a convent only to discover a different kind of cage in her subsequent marriage. The play has never been translated into English and has only been performed five times previously, providing a nice break from the playwright's ever popular Miss Julie.

Melt away work stress through dance with a series of free movement workshops courtesy of the New York Restoration Project. The indie-ballet collaborative brings yoga/dance/improv interactive performance workshops to Brooklyn parks throughout the month accompanied by tunes from local musicians.

If group dance isn't quite your thing, head over to the The Noguchi Museum instead for their al fresco concert series Music in the Garden. This month, Mantra Percussion performs Timber, a "full length concert for six percussionists playing on amplified two by fours using mallets and fingertips."
