The Fair Chance in Housing Act took effect in New Jersey on January 1st.

"A felony conviction is a life sentence. It follows you wherever you go, even though it's not relevant to who you really are," they said.

The change is set to go into effect in 2018.

"We know that because of racial stereotypes, the police assume people of color are more violent than their white counterparts, and will be charged differently."

They want the school to stop making applicants disclose whether they've ever been convicted of a crime.
