A taxi driver who struck several pedestrians on a sidewalk near Herald Square on Christmas Day was having a medical episode at the time of the incident, police said on Thursday.

NYPD officials said they did not suspect any criminality in the crash, which sent four people to the hospital, including a 9-year-old boy, a 41-year-old woman, a 49-year-old woman and the 58-year-old male taxi driver. Police said they could not specify what kind of episode he was having, due to patient confidentiality laws.

The boy was taken to a local hospital with a laceration to his right thigh, while the 41- and 49-year-olds were hospitalized with a head and leg injury, respectively, police said. They were all reported in stable condition.

According to NYPD officials, the driver was driving northbound on Sixth Avenue around 3 p.m. on Wednesday when he jumped the curb and plowed into a crowd. He stayed at the scene and was taken to Bellevue Hospital to be evaluated, police said.

Four other people refused medical attention at the scene, according to the NYPD.
