The Daily News reports that two separate incidents of women being raped by strangers yesterday morning. One incident occurred around 7AM, when a NJ woman headed to a Spanish Harlem building where she works as a baby-sitter. The woman was "grabbed," "dragged" and raped in the elevator. Police are not sure if she was followed (she had taken the 6 train to 103rd Street).
The other assault occurred on the N train which was waiting at Coney Island, around 4:30AM. The victim had first taken the W at 49th Street (probably transferred at some point) and fallen asleep. When she woke up, she was at the end of the subway line and found "a man looming over her as the train idled in the Coney Island station." The man asked her, "How much?" and after she told him she wasn't a prostitute, he left.
The woman, who had slept through her stop, told police she then fell asleep again and was awakened by the man pinning her to the ground, raping her as he held a box cutter to her face.
During the attack, the train continued to its next stop and the man fled, cops said.
WABC 7 says she ran to get help from the train conductor and was later treated at Coney Island Hospital. The police are looking for both attackers.
