There are plenty of things to be upset about if a family member is in jail—knowing that the person caused suffering in some way, the horrible color schemes of prison jump suits, etc. Marie Domond isn't upset about any of that, or the fact that her brother Gerard Domond is serving 25 years to life for murdering someone. She's mad that her brother is sometimes referred to as an "inmate." So she's suing.
According to the lawsuit that Domond is bringing against New York Correctional Services Department, she doesn't like the word because it "implies that our brother is locked up for the purpose of mating with other men." Apparently Domond is okay with her brother being known for shooting another man in the head, but there is no way she's letting anyone think that Gerard Domond is gay. It seems gay marriage being legalized hasn't opened the minds of everyone yet.
"It's [the word inmate] something that's bothered me for a long time," Domond explained to The New York Post. "I couldn't understand why no one recognized that somebody being labeled an inmate, why they wouldn't recognize that. To me it just sounded very wrong."
Domond, who is (of course) acting as her own lawyer, is seeking $50 million in damages for "mental anguish." No word on if she'll spilt any of those potential winnings with those who have read about her crusade.
