Police are investigating after officers found a woman’s body in a garbage can near a busy Brooklyn park on Wednesday afternoon, according to the NYPD.
Officials said a passerby called 911 to report the body around 3 p.m., and directed officers to the Belt Parkway near its intersection with Knapp Street in Sheepshead Bay. Once there, officers found an adult woman unconscious and unresponsive in a trash receptacle near Plum Beach, police said.
EMS workers pronounced the woman dead at the scene, though police said it wasn’t immediately clear if she had any obvious injuries. NYPD officials said they will publicly release her identity after they notify her family.
The city Medical Examiner’s office will determine her cause of death.
