On Friday, a 22-year-old woman was arrested and charged with attempted murder for stabbing her boyfriend with a kitchen knife. Yekaterina Pusepa initially claimed that boyfriend Alec Katsnelson had stabbed himself in the chest during an argument inside their Gold Street apartment, but after coming out of surgery, Katsnelson told police she had stabbed him. Neighbors think the two will work it out though: “They’ll be back together, I guarantee it,” sone neighbor told the Post. “He’s going to forgive her, I just know it.”

Pusepa was arraigned on assault and attempted murder charges Saturday, and a judge ordered her held in lieu of $75,000 bail. According to court records, Katsnelson swore that Pusepa was holding a kitchen knife in each hand early Friday morning during the argument. He claims she stabbed him in the chest, causing him to bleed and lose consciousness.

Neighbors said the two fought often and loudly, and this latest fight was over cheating: “[Cops] told me she lashed out because he was constantly cheating on her,” neighbor Tricia Evi, a St. John’s student, told the Post. Katsnelson’s mother, Lena Katsnelson, said friends and family had tried to convince her son to break up with Pusepa, and he was even in the process of getting a restraining order against her—but he was also still in love with her.

Katsnelson had allegedly tried to kick Pusepa out in march because of her drug problems, but he ended up spending a weekend in jail because "she had some bruises on her arms from the fight," according to Lena Katsnelson. Pusepa’s lawyer, Kevin O’Connell, said: “The parties have been in a relationship and it’s a relationship that has apparently had its ups and downs.” Pusepa, a Latvian immigrant in the process of becoming a US citizen, faces up to 25 years in jail if found guilty.
