Folks whose driver's licenses are more than just wallet-sized drinking passports tell us that renting a car is a tiresome business, fraught with frustrating paperwork and pesky hidden fees. And it appears one young woman could not be shackled to the constraints of a rental agreement due date: she was arrested for keeping her car four months after the return date because she's "been very busy."
According to a crime blurb on DNAinfo, 26-year-old Ashleigh Byrd was charged with possession of stolen property on December 22nd, after cops discovered she was still holding onto a red Ford Focus rental with an August 1st return date. "Yea, I know I was suppose[d] to give the car a couple of months ago, I think September," she told cops, according to a criminal complaint. "I’ve been very busy."
Byrd was reportedly released without bail, and the car has presumably been returned to the rental agency; hopefully the next time she takes out a car she'll just drop it off outside an airport terminal like everyone else.
