Last night, more than 50 million people watched as San Francisco punt returner Kyle Williams conjured the ghost of Bill Buckner, and Eli Manning's facial expressions led the Giants to defeat the 49ers in OT to advance to their second Super Bowl in the last four years. Despite turning into arguably the best overall team in the league over the last five weeks—and despite having beaten them already this season—the Giants are still considered the underdog going into their game with the New England Patriots, a rematch of Super Bowl XLII. But at least they can still hold this over the Jets on Twitter: "Some teams are happy getting to Conference Championship games, but #ImReallyGoodAt winning them! 5-0 all time!"

Tom Brady is pumped at the chance to have revenge for the 2008 Super Bowl: "It was a great game and sets up for a great rematch between two teams, really, who have earned the right to represent their conferences in the Super Bowl. It's a great feeling for all of us players." Giants fans are salivating at the mouth: “It’s great! I danced on the table every time [receiver Victor] Cruz got the ball. It’s been crazy, up and down. I’ve watched every game right here, wearing the same clothes and praying,” Sat Seshadri told the News. San Francisco fans have not been so nice to Williams though, sending him multiple death threats since he messed up two crucial plays during the game.

Among those 50 million+ people watching the game were many eager tri-state area politicians, some genuinely enthusiastic, some hoping to parlay their relative ignorance (or apathy) of football into a chance to connect with constituents. Councilman Peter Vallone Jr. sounds like one of the former: "you'd better start stealing some plays belichick, cuz here come the giants!!!!" he wrote on Facebook. Councilman Jumaane Williams probably had the best response:

YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!

NJ Gov. Chris Christie of course took the opportunity to renew his efforts to get the Giants to be associated with New Jersey, tweeting: "Congratulations New Jersey Giants. On to Super Bowl XLVI!" Giants fans weren't so pleased by that though, tweeting back things like "didnt you root for the jets you fat worthless sack of human shit." At least Bloomberg won't have to rename 49th Street. At the end of the day, we should all try to get along, and just be glad that we're not in Baltimore right now.
