Why does President Obama hate us so much? And by us, we mean those who live, work and/or visit the city where a car bomb was allegedly placed by a man with ties to the Pakistani Taliban. WCBS 2 reports that the White House has cut funding for counterterrorism in NYC "by $42 million - 27 percent - and for port security by $11.2 million, or 25 percent." Rep. Peter King (R-NY), the ranking member of the House Homeland Security Committee, was shocked, "This is definitely a slap in the face to New York." And maybe Mayor Bloomberg—guess his visit to DC last week didn't make much of an impression.

Senator Charles Schumer issued a statement, "For the administration to announce these cuts two weeks after the attempted Times Square bombing shows they just don't get it and are not doing right by New York City on anti-terrorism funding. We urge them to reconsider this decision. Instead of distributing funding all over the country, they should focus their attention where the greatest threat exists, right here in New York."

King also said, "That money could have been used for tunnel hardening, it could have been uses for communications systems. It could have been used for detection equipment. It could have been used for training. That's $40 million that was cut on port security. We have book keepers in the budget office that are putting dollars and sense [sic] before human life."

President Obama will be in NYC tomorrow (he has a fundraiser tomorrow night) and he'll be meeting with members of the NYPD's bomb squad. Should be a barrel of laughs.
