A 22-year-old man claiming to be a "neighborhood watchman" in the West Village was arrested early Sunday morning after he allegedly robbed and raped a 30-year-old woman who had lost her wallet (but not her ATM card). Fortunately, while she was being attacked on a Perry Street stairwell, the woman was able to scream for help, leading a good Samaritan to call the cops on the perp (and chase him).

Police arrested Ivan Ramos of Brooklyn around 6:30 a.m. Sunday after he refused to be handcuffed and tried to flee. When they caught him, however, he happened to have his victim's ATM card still in his pocket. Sources tell the New York Post the attack occurred after Ramos met up with the woman on the street. She was reportedly disoriented from drinking and had lost her wallet, so Ramos offered to help:

Since she still had her debit card on her, that “help” allegedly included Ramos trying to use it to get cash from a nearby ATM. When that failed because she gave him the wrong code, the sources said, Ramos pulled her by the arm into the basement entrance of a tailor’s shop where he allegedly raped her and forced her to perform oral sex.

According to Han Moon, the tailor whose shop the crime occurred in front of, the whole thing in surveillance video. “He was trying to pull up her skirt up and hold her down. She was trying to get away and he was forcing her to stay still.”

Ramos, who apparently has been "booked more than 20 times" in the last six years, is being held on $300,000 bond and is being charged with felony rape charges, criminal sexual act and criminal possession of stolen property, and misdemeanor resisting arrest charges.
