When it comes to excitement, the weather can't really compete with the Lunar New Year, Groundhog Day and whatever else is happening this weekend, but wait 'til next week! The most thrilling local weather news of the moment is that the temperature has risen above the freezing mark for the first time since Monday. It's going to keep rising until it gets close to 40 degrees this afternoon.
High pressure over the region will keep us dry today, but it will give way to a warm front passing through the city early tomorrow morning. Look for mostly cloudy skies and a high in the mid 40s on Saturday. As a cold front approaches we may see some light rain on Saturday night or Sunday morning. The overcast skies should mean Staten Island Chuck will not see his shadow on Sunday morning, hence an early Spring, but Chuck's PR people have a creative way of interpreting what he sees. Otherwise Sunday is expected to be a blah, overcast day with a very slight chance of sprinkles and a high in the mid to upper 40s. When the cold front pushes through late Sunday night we may see a few snow showers.
Light snow may linger into Monday but the snowfall isn't expected to be significant. That may change come Tuesday night or Wednesday of next week. Early indications are a coastal storm may affect us during that time period, but the timing of the storm and whether or not the precipitation will be solid is still up for grabs.
