If you think it's cold now, just wait until later this afternoon. The storm that brought us yesterday's massive snowfall, is about to drag an Arctic front across the region. Once the front passes, the temperature is going to plunge through the teens this evening and into the single digits tomorrow morning. A blustery northwest wind, which is already delaying flights into LaGuardia, will produce wind chills in the 0-10 degree range while the sun is out and below zero values tonight and tomorrow. That's cold enough that the National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory. Prolonged exposure may cause frostbite and hypothermia, so cover up any exposed skin if you are going outside for any length of time.

Tomorrow morning's temperature is expected to bottom out around 7 degrees, by far the coldest of the season. Thursday's high will only reach 20 degrees, with the wind chill remaining at or below zero all day. The wind will start blowing out of the southwest tomorrow night as the cold air mass moves eastward, spelling an end to the deep freeze. Friday will still be blustery, and we could see light snow in the morning, but the sky should clear by the afternoon and Friday's high will be near freezing.

The weekend will start with a brief relapse into cold weather with Saturday only warming to the mid 20s. However, milder air will arrive on Sunday, when the high should reach the mid 30s, and Monday's high could reach the upper 30s, which is about normal for early January. Monday will also be the next chance for any snow stronger than scattered flurries.
