After months of chewing our fingernails and clutching our Rex Ryan bobblehead, it appears as though the NFL lockout may finally be resolved before the end of the week. If it happens, there is expected to be an immediate frenzied period of trades, deals and player movement across the league. And just as Jets cornerback Antonio Cromartie isn't tied down to any one baby mama, he made it clear that he wasn't tied down to any one team.
Cromartie talked free agency on SiriusXM NFL Radio yesterday, and said that although he really liked the Jets, he didn't love them enough to pass up more money if he could get it elsewhere. “I would love to be a Jet at the end of the day. But I also want to go out and see what the market is and see what my value is. At the end of the day, to me there is no such thing as no hometown discount. I’m not giving anybody no hometown discount. I’m definitely going to see what the organization says and then also let them know I would like to go out and test the market and see what my value is.” After all, he's not a business man, he's a business, man!
Besides the Jets, Cromartie listed the Texans, Buccaneers, Seahawks, Cardinals, Cowboys and Raiders as possible suitors—seeing as how he has nine kids in eight states with seven different women, odds are he has one kid in each of those cities! The Jets may have bigger plans though: getting Randy Moss. The Jets have shown in the past two seasons that they are a legit contender for the Super Bowl, and are willing to bring in controversial players for short-term deals to further that goal (such as Santonio Holmes last season). And the Jets of course have their ace-in-the-hole: who doesn't want to play for Rex Ryan, the goddamn snack-eating, NJ transit-riding Teddy Roosevelt of our time?
But what if the NFL lockout isn't resolved, and the NBA also falls into a lockout next year? How shall we entertained? And what will happen to the corporations and video game companies who rely on the sports for their revenue? Thankfully, EA has already started planning ahead with a fallback: Spelling Bee Jams 2012.
