As dirt bikes and ATVs have gained popularity in NYC, pedestrians and motorists have learned to loathe their nasal whine and general unpredictability. The NYPD can't stand them either—this video shows two cops desperately trying to chase down dirt bike riders in Bronxdale.
Last August, an NYPD cruiser struck a dirt bike with two men on it during a chase in the Bronx. 28-year-old Eddie Fernandez, who was driving the bike, was killed. Passenger Adalberto Gonzalez survived, and alleges that the officer piloting the vehicle was reckless. The Bronx DA's office has ruled the crash an accident.
