Three Connecticut police officers are being investigated after a video was uploaded on YouTube showing them beating and kicking a suspect after he had already apparently been subdued with a stun gun. The incident took place on May 20, 2011 in Beardsley Park in Bridgeport, CT. You can see the man go down after getting hit by the stun gun as the video begins (one cop yells, "nice shot"); two officers stand over him and kick him. Then a third officer joins them in attacking the man.
According to the Courant, Police Chief Joseph Gaudett Jr. said he learned of the video on Jan. 17, and an internal investigation began immediately. The officers in the video—Elson Morales, Joseph Lawlor and Clive Higgins—are all 10-year veterans of the department; they were placed on administrative status the next day.
Police are still trying to determine who the suspect in the video is; apparently, he did not file an excessive force complaint. They're also curious why the video was only posted online on January 6th of this year. "I'm concerned by what I saw and ordered the Office of Internal Affairs (OIA) to conduct an immediate, thorough and timely investigation," Gaudett said in a statement.
