A teen who brutally stabbed a 12-year-old boy has been given the maximum juvenile sentence for the attempted murder. Wayne Henderson, 17, was found guilty last month of the attempted murder, assault and disfigurement of Luis Martinez; Henderson and his girlfriend Carina Parache stabbed Martinez multiple times together and carved an "X" into his face two years ago. “This is the most vicious crime I’m seen in my 25 years on the bench,” said Judge James Griffin.

On January 9th, 2010, 15-year-old Henderson and 14-year-old Parache repeatedly stabbed Martinez in the head, neck, legs, chest, hands and back after the boys had an argument about whether Martinez had a crush on her. Parache, who gave birth to Henderson's child while she was locked up in the months after the attack, admitted to the assault, and said she kicked Martinez in the head and face while Henderson stabbed his face.

Henderson also directed Parache to join in and stab him in the neck. Before they left, he carved the "X" into Martinez's cheek. Parache later apologized for the attack, and was sentenced to two to six years. The judge wasn't so kind to Henderson: he was sentenced to five to 10 years in prison, the maximum under juvenile-offender guidelines; if he had been tried as an adult, he would have gotten up to 20 years.
