Yesterday, Verizon announced that two companies that have annoyed Verizon Wireless customers with robo-calls about their expiring auto insurance are now barred "from telemarketing to Verizon Wireless customers using illegal methods." Gizmodo explains, "Auto Warranty Services and Explicit Media (Voice Solutions) had both used auto-dialers to call Verizon customers, as well as everyone else, to offer them auto warranty insurance. Verizon sued last year to stop the practice, and just received $50,000, which they will donate to charity." These calls were especially annoying to those...who don't even have cars! While Verizon is pleased with the outcome, VP Steven Zipperstein said, "We know that unscrupulous companies and individuals continue to make these calls and offer these products," and the company will continue to pursue them. The money is being donated to the Joyful Heart Foundation, which helps survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence and child abuse and was founded by Law & Order: Special Victims Unit actress Mariska Hargitay.
