A 50-year-old man was found dead from what police believe was a self-inflicted gunshot wound this morning in the Thurgood Marshall U.S. Courthouse at 40 Centre Street. Spokespersons for the NYPD and FDNY say the deceased was found at approximately 5:30 a.m.
The man, who has not been identified pending family notification, was a court officer with the U.S. Marshals Service, according to the NY Post and the Daily News. One police source tells the Post that the man was a former NYPD officer who "retired from the NYPD in 2000 on disability from the spinal problems he had."
