A Utica man has been arrested for accidentally striking his 8-year-old son with a samurai sword while trying to hit another man with it. Police say that on Tuesday morning, Thar Kyi, 42, barged into the home where his three children live with their mother in order to attack her new boyfriend. According to UticaOD, the boyfriend was helping the 8-year-old tie his shoes when Kyi swung at him, missed, and hit the boy.
A fight ensued between the two men, and the boyfriend was cut several times with the sword, but none of his injuries were life-threatening. The 8-year-old was taken to the hospital, but his injuries weren't life-threatening either. Kyi has been charged with assault, burglary, criminal contempt and criminal possession of a weapon.
