An off-duty police officer allegedly shot and killed her boyfriend and one-year-old child early this morning in East Flatbush before turning the weapon upon herself. An NYPD spokesman would only confirm that a shooting occurred at 806 East 54th Street, resulting in multiple people killed, and that there is no suspect on the loose. But the Daily News reports that the shooter was an off-duty NYPD officer.
We'll update when we receive more information.
[UPDATE / 12:30 p.m.]The Times reports that the officer is 43-year-old Rosette Samuel, who has been with the department since 2000 and was most recently assigned to the 108th Precinct in Queens.
NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said that the officer's 19-year-old son was sleeping in the first-floor apartment and escaped out of a bedroom window after he heard gunshots. The son called 911 around 8:30 a.m.
The bodies of the officer and baby were found, face up, on a bed in a bedroom that investigators believe the couple shared with their young child; a crib sat near the bed against a bedroom wall, Mr. Browne said. Officers discovered the body of the infant’s father lying just inside the home’s entrance in the front hallway.
“It was a tough crime scene,” said Mr. Browne, his words slightly halted.
