[UPDATE BELOW] A 68-year-old man is in critical condition after crashing his motorcycle in Central Park this afternoon. According to the NYPD, the unidentified motorcycle operator was heading northbound when he crashed into a guardrail on the East Drive near 96th Street. The accident occurred shortly before 3:30 p.m. The NYPD's Accident Investigation Squad is on the scene, and the cause of the crash is under investigation.
An NYPD spokesman tells us the unidentified man was rushed to Mount Sinai hospital in critical condition. We'll update as more information becomes available.
Update 5:25 p.m.: The NYPD press office confirms the man has died. His identity is being withheld pending family notification, and the investigation is ongoing.
