[UPDATE BELOW] North Korea is poised to conduct another nuclear test in defiance of United Nations sanctions, and to get psyched for the big day, state-run media has released this video showing an American city that appears to be New York going up in flames under a barrage of missiles. It all goes down to the tune of "We Are the World," the charity single written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie that raised over $63 million for humanitarian aid in Africa in 1985. DEATH TO EASY LISTENING AMERICAN IMPERIALISM! (At the 2:05 mark):
Heh heh, there you go, Hans Brix, inspect THAT! The video, which judging by the production values was produced around the same time as "We Are the World," was uploaded on Saturday by the North's official propaganda website, Uriminzokkir. The segment with the U.S. city under attack is reportedly accompanied by the caption, "Somewhere in the United States, black clouds of smoke are billowing. It seems that the nest of wickedness is ablaze with the fire started by itself." Wait, "nest of wickedness"? Oh dear God, Kim Jong-un is targeting the Meatpacking District?!
Update 1:23 p.m.:The Times has confirmed that the city depicted in the video is in fact NYC, because the animation is actually lifted from the video game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, from a segment that shows Lower Manhattan in flames.
