Four people were injured when a Department of Environmental Protection truck crashed into a building at 87th Street and First Avenue last night. And it turns out that truck had been stolen from a downtown lot—police say they arrested two people.
The truck was barreling down the Upper East Side street when it hit a cab. One witness told NY1, "I was parking the cab and I see the truck was coming down from the north side. The truck was out of control." Another said, “I looked up and a cab was coming right toward me. I thought I was going to die." The truck then slammed into a barber shop—a resident of the building said, "I heard a loud crash and when I looked out the window, I saw a truck sticking out of the front of my building."
The Post reports, "Rescuers used the jaws of life to pull the driver from the stolen truck. Cops slapped him in handcuffs once he was out, a fireman on the scene told The Post." His passenger was also arrested; the cab's driver and a pedestrian were also treated for injuries.
