The Transport Workers' Union executive leadership is trying to get the new contract passed by the membership - the deadline is Friday. What does that mean? TWU President Roger Toussaint launched an offensive of, as NY1 puts it, "radio ads, phone calls and threats to convince his members to approve the deal." Yes, threats! Going from threatening the city and state politicians (okay, they need threatening) and the bus and subway riders of NYC to threatening their own members. One of Toussaint's memos said members who actively campaign against the contract will get fined - is this how the TWU is raising money to pay of its own fines for having the strike? At any rate, a court hearing for TWU leaders that would decide fines and jailtime has been postponed.

If the contract doesn't pass, there may be another strike. We hope not, but you can relive last month's strike through our archvies. And Gothamist has NOT forgotten about the winners of the Most Inconvenient Commute Contest. We'll post about them next week.
