The police are hoping the public can help them locate a man who is wanted for allegedly sexually assaulted a woman this past Sunday in an alleyway near East 58th Street.
According to investigators, around 3:35 a.m., a 20-year-old woman "exited a yellow taxi on East 58 Street was grabbed from behind, dragged into an alleyway, and sexually assaulted." The victim is an Australian tourist who had just left Lavo, the nightclub on East 58th between Park Avenue and Madison Avenue.
Police sources tell the Post and Daily News that the woman had hailed a cab but "for some reason, started arguing with the driver and quickly got out." The Post source adds that the victim couldn't remember the exact spot when she was questioned later.
The suspect is described as a black male, around 35-40 years old, 6'2", 190 lbs, and was wearing dark clothing. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS (8477).
