Summertime in the city: sun, fun, and miserably hot subway rides. The annual battle against heatstroke while being shuttled around in sweltering underground tubes is in full swing, with some trains feeling literally Hellish (hello, B.O. Zone). But who really has it the worst?
The MTA has announced that the Franklin Shuttle is the hottest train in the system, with temperatures regularly exceeding the MTA guidelines of 58 to 78 degrees. The shuttle, which is only four stops long, was only cool in the summer (and, for what it's worth, warm in the winter) 83% of the time, which is a solid 10% below the systemwide average. Which means that if you're taking it to Prospect Park, pack light.
The coolest? That would be the L, with temperatures no higher than 78 degrees. So we're still not sure why people continue to take their clothes off on it.
