Or you could call it a fantastic way to get arrested! A Staten Island man was busted for allegedly pretending to be a cop in an elaborate ruse to get a phone number.
According to the Staten Island Advance, Dennis Scamardella "was driving a black Cadillac with a blinking light installed in the dashboard, and at about 1 p.m. Nov. 24, he used it to stop the woman's car, police allege." The woman pulled over, and then Scamardella allegedly pulled the ol' "Officer Law/Doctor Love" routine:
He had what looked like a police shield dangling from his neck, and a pair of handcuffs hanging from his waistband, police allege.
"Hi, I'm Dennis. Do you know how beautiful you are?" Scamardella said, according to the criminal complaint against him.
When the woman asked if he was actually a real cop, he responded, "Yeah, don't you see my badge, cuffs and gun? Do you have a boyfriend? Give me your phone number," the complaint alleges.
SWIPE RIGHT. Scamardella was arrested on Friday and charged with second-degree criminal impersonation. He was released without bail and will be back in court in March.
The Advance adds, "On Tuesday, police arrested Michael Paneque, 45, alleging he pretended to be an officer so he could stop, frisk and rob a woman in Rosebank on Sept. 6."
