A Brooklyn teenager was arrested for attacking and trying to burn out the eyes of a classmate with acid during chemistry class yesterday. According to police, Zhanna Smsarian, 16, purposefully poured diluted hydrochloric acid over the head and face of Albina Eshimbaeva, 15. And she allegedly told cops that Eshimbaeva got what she deserved.
Smsarian and Eshimbaeva were in chemistry class yesterday at Fort Hamilton High School at 10:45 a.m. when Smsarian grabbed the bottle of acid and poured it all over Eshimbaeva's face. Cops told the Post that the acid dripped down into her eyes, and that the teacher immediately started flushing the girl’s eyes and face with water. She was taken to Staten Island Hospital burn center; staff said she definitely would have been blinded, if the acid hadn't been diluted. It's unclear what caused the attack currently. Smsarian was arraigned and charged today with attempted assault and criminal possession of a weapon in the brutal attack.
There have been several acid attacks in the past year, including a Bronx bus rider who threw it on the driver, a man who threw it at a dog owner, and an online date that took a very wrong turn.
