A slasher attacked a 19-year-old woman who was jogging in Jackson Heights around 11 a.m. on Sunday morning.

According to an NYPD spokesperson, she was at the corner of 79th Street and 25th Avenue at 11:15 a.m. when a 20-year-old Hispanic man approached her and slashed her in the thigh with an unknown weapon. He then ran away. The woman was transported to Elmhurst Hospital Center for treatment of her injuries.

Police could not say Monday morning what, if anything, prompted the attack, and no arrests have been made. The suspect was wearing a gray hoodie at the time of the slashing.

One local resident told CBS New York that the incident was "very shocking, very shocking," given the perceived safety of the neighborhood: "People are home by six, kids play outside, so it’s very safe. So to hear something like that is a little scary."

Sunday's attack is the latest in a string of seemingly random slashings in NYC, though most of those recently reported have occurred in the subway system.
