Teenager Shytik Bowman was charged with third-degree possession of a weapon after cops found a sawed-off .22 caliber single-action rifle and a silencer in his backpack yesterday. Cops approached the 16-year-old in the bathroom of Legacy High School yesterday morning, suspecting there may have been a drug deal taking place. One source told the Daily News, "[The agents] saw a couple of students acting shady near a bathroom. They confiscated his book bag, but the kid ran away."
Bowman turned himself in later that afternoon, but locals say the school should invest in metal detectors to prevent incidents like this from happening again. Local 237 president Gregory Floyd said, "This incident once again shows how dangerous it is for our school safety agents and how important they are to keeping our children safe." Recently two Long Island teens were busted for planning an attack on their high school, and were waiting until one of them turned 18 to buy guns for the attack.
