Police are looking for a young man who they say attacked a cop and stole her gun and purse as she was leaving her Bronx apartment for work this morning. Police said the 41-year-old officer was walking to her car around 5 a.m. at her Wakefield building near Bronx Boulevard and E. 226th Street, when the suspect snatched the gold chain from her neck and demanded her wallet.

The officer reached for her bag, but he grabbed it and punched her in the face, knocking her over, cops said. Her gun fell out of the purse and the man grabbed it and the bag and scrammed, according to reports.

The victim is at Montefiore Hospital in stable condition, and police are combing the neighborhood for signs of the attacker. One clip, from CBS2, shows officers in SWAT gear outside the apartment building, one holding a sledgehammer.

Cops describe the suspect as in his late teens or early 20s, 6 feet tall, 150 pounds, and last seen wearing a white tank top, dark pants, and a watch on his left arm.

Police ask people with information about the incident to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). People can also submit tips at www.nypdcrimestoppers.com or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) and entering "TIP577".
