Well, this is depressing. The 10-month-old puppy, named Brooklyn, who jumped off the roof of his building over the weekend... has died. The pup originally survived the 5-story plunge, but now it's being reported by PeoplePets that the family euthanized him today.

Owner Diane Mella said: "We're all upset. I have three kids, and they're all really attached to him. He was like my fourth child. The kids didn't go to school today. We're all here at the hospital to say our final goodbyes."

The decision came today when a CAT scan showed that the break in the dog's spine was larger than expected — and doctors advised he be put down. A silver lining to the tragedy? The site reports that a papillon named Precious is scheduled to give birth to a litter of Brooklyn's puppies next week; Mella says, "We're hoping everything goes well. We may end up with a Brooklyn Jr."
