It's a beautiful post-Valentine's Day today thanks to a low pressure system to our west that's sending lots of sun and warmth our way. This afternoon's high is going to be pretty close to 50 degrees. Enjoy the nice weather while you can, because that same storm is going to bring us some pretty blah and cruddy weather for the weekend.
A cold front will pass through the city late tonight, producing rain changing into snow as the colder air arrives. The front is kind of a slow moving dullard which means we can expect a chance of snow, possibly changing back to rain, to last all day tomorrow and probably into Sunday. Not much accumulation is expected because there isn't much moisture tagging along with this system. Well, AccuWeather is saying 1-3 inches but we're not buying it. All the clouds, rain and snow will keep the temperature down in the 30s all day tomorrow. As often happens, when the energy from the first storm gets over the warm Gulf Stream a stronger coastal storm will develop. This one looks like it will form way too north and east to affect New York.
The more significant change for the city will be the cold, blustery air that gets here once the cold front passes. Sunday is looking brisk, with strong northwesterly winds and a high only in the upper 20s. Bundle up if you're going to the Lunar New Year parade in Chinatown. Monday morning's low temperature is likely to be in the teens as high pressure settles over the area. However, we should warm to the mid 30s by that afternoon.
