Steely Dan co-founder Donald Fagen was arrested at his Upper East Side home last night after allegedly assaulting his wife, musician Libby Titus. An NYPD spokesperson confirmed that Fagen was charged with misdemeanor assault and harassment. He was released without bail this morning.
Fagen allegedly shoved Titus into a marble window frame, knocking her to the floor and causing "bruising and swelling to her right arm, as well as substantial pain," according to the criminal complaint. Prosecutors say Fagen "grabbed her arms and rapidly extend[ed] his arms in the direction of said frame, causing her to fall onto the frame."
The Daily News reports that Fagen was also issued an order of protection to stay away from Titus.
Fagen and Titus, who both attended Bard College at the same time in the mid-1960s, have been married since 1993.
Steely Dan's representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment. In October, the trailblazing jazz-rock band, which formed in 1972, completed a sold-out eight-night run at the Beacon Theater.
