The 75-year-old Staten Island woman who was beaten by a pair of thugs last month for a grand total of $18 has died, according to authorities. Last month 75-year-old Linda Naimo and her husband Joseph locked up their shop of 40 years, 3J's Variety Store on Victory Boulevard, after celebrating his 81st birthday in there with family. As they were heading into their apartment upstairs a man and woman forced their way into the vestibule and pummeled them to the ground, demanding money. The attack was so severe that it left Linda with a broken nose, a fractured skull, a fractured jaw and a gash down her forehead. Three weeks later she was dead.
Police are waiting for an autopsy to determine if Naimo's death was related to her injuries (she has been in and out of the hospital since the attack). In the meantime, the hunt is still on for the assailants—police are offering a $12,000 reward for information that leads to their arrest and conviction.
If Linda Naimo's death is ruled to be a homicide it would be the first reported one on Staten Island this year.
