Spirit Airlines, the classiest airline in town, has started charging its valued customers the low, low cost of just $5 for printing out their boarding passes at the airport. Which is nothing short of a bargain for the finest printed ticket in the airline biz—at least compared to the prices they charge for your carry-ons.
Should you find the $5 fee offensive, simply check in and print your pass at home! Or, if you must, you'll soon be able to print your pass at a self check-in kiosk for a mere $1. "By lowering the fare for everyone and then charging only those who choose for us to print their boarding pass, we let the customer decide," said Ben Baldanza, president and CEO of Spirit. "It's all about consumer choice." We can only wonder how long before other airlines choose to charge for this important service—which overly-pampered, entitled airline travelers taken for granted for too long!
After all, $5 is small price to pay to help the struggling airline economy—and Lord knows, those clever ad campaigns don't pay for themselves.
