200802hepa.jpgIt used to be one only had to worry about "the morning after" if they took another bar patron home with them, but the NYC Health Department is asking at least 800 imbibers of a West Village bar to get a hepatitis A vaccination!

The precautionary measure is being taken because a bartender at Socialista has the disease. Now everyone who was at the bar on February 7th or 8th after 8pm or February 11th after 10pm is being urged to get the shot lest they get more than they bargained for on their night out. WNBC gets advice from the Health Department's Sharon Balter, who says, "If people experience symptoms, they should see a doctor, but for most people bed rest and avoiding alcohol are all that is needed to recover. This incident serves as an important reminder to always wash hands thoroughly and regularly to prevent the spread of disease."

Better make sure your local watering hole's glasses are as clean as your bartender, the disease is most often spread from "putting something in one's mouth that has been contaminated with traces of fecal matter from an infected person spreads Hepatitis A." First the gyms, now this. But Socialista told TMZ, "Although no additional cases of illness have been identified, the New York City Department of Health is urging customers to get the vaccination as a precautionary measure. We are grateful for their efforts and we will continue to support them in every way possible."

If you happen to be one of the unlucky 800, you can get a shot (on the house!) at P.S. 41 elementary school at 116 West 11th Street at 6th Avenue in Manhattan from 4 to 10pm on Friday, 1 to 8pm Saturday or from 1 to 6pm on Sunday. No word on whether Ashton Kutcher, who had his birthday party there on the 7th, will be going there.
