Did anyone wake up early enough to see the sunrise version of Manhattanhenge? We thought not. The sun will be out most of the day and a seasonable high in the upper 30s is expected. It should be a breezy day so be prepared for the wind chill.
It looks like an honest to goodness snowstorm will hit the city tomorrow. The National Weather Service he issued a winter storm watchfor the region from noon Saturday to noon Sunday with the snow expected to reach the city by mid-afternoon tomorrow. Now they need to harmonize their forecasts, which are calling for either 1-3 or 5-7 inches of snow in the city. Take your pick! In either case snowfall amounts are likely to be lower the further south and east you go. The snow should end Sunday morning and there may even be sun by afternoon. Temperatures over the weekend won't get much over freezing.
Most New Yorkers don't pay too much attention to the Fairbanks forecast but we do. Partly because we have friends and colleagues up there and partly because changes in Fairbanks's weather hint at what's to come here in New York. The last couple of weeks have been cold in Fairbanks, with highs between 30 to 40 below zero. The forecast though, has Fairbanks warming up to 10 above next week. The cold air just doesn't disappear. Want to guess where it is headed? It won't be below zero by the time it gets here but we are looking at the coldest weather of the season next week. By next Wednesday we are likely to see highs in the lower 20s and lows in the teens.
