Two men who robbed a Poughkeepsie man last summer, accidentally shooting him in the process, have been given stiff jail sentences for their befuddled criminal behavior. As he imposed the first sentence, Dutchess County Court Judge Stephen L. Greller chided the men for their foolish crime: "You and your accomplice robbed this man, and he was shot, and all you got was 86 cents."

Michael Armstrong, 22, admitted that he and 18-year-old Devonte Burks attacked the unidentified man for money on Aug. 21. During the robbery, Burks admitted that his handgun went off, seriously injuring the victim. Armstrong was sentenced to seven years in prison, while Burks, who pleaded guilty to first-degree robbery, was sentenced to 11 years for his part. In addition, the judge ordered the two to pay more than $65,000 in medical bills for the victim, who had to undergo surgery after being shot in the stomach.
