Why did the snake cross the road? Well, authorities aren't quite sure because it never made it to the other side: a six-foot boa constrictor was found dead on the side of the road in Norwalk, Connecticut yesterday.
The snake was found on New Canaan Ave after a resident called in to report a live snake crawling across the street and blocking traffic. Police said it could have been run over and moved by a motorist, but animal control officials say the constrictor "appeared to have been dead for some time" when they found it. Charles "Ed" Thivierge, manager of the South Smith Street kennel, told The Hour the snake could have escaped from its home and died in the extreme heat or been thrown out by its owner.
Boa constrictors are legal as pets in Connecticut, and can grow up to 13 feet long. Similar snakes have previously been spotted hanging out at a park in Queens, a couch in Brooklyn, and a laundromat in Morningside Heights.
