Buttkiss, the old Queens fish we wrote about last year, has made it all the way to NPR! The black pacu is about to turn 44 years old (though we were told he was 41 back in September), which is twice the normal lifespan of these fish.
Owner of Buttkiss, and the Cameo Pet Shop in Richmond Hill, Steve Gruebel says his beloved fish weighs in at around 15 pounds and is 22 inches long. A big fish like this is sure to be celebrated, but reporter Vanessa Romo lexically rips him apart! She says Buttkiss "hit every ugly branch on the family tree. It's a homely fish with pointy teeth, and Buttkiss has even more problems. Over the years his gills have become deformed. His back has grown hunched, and he's developed glaucoma in his right eye. That last might be considered a blessing if it cuts his chances of catching his reflection in the tank."
Aww, go give this ugly guy some love and wish him a happy birthday on April 1st... yep, April Fool's Day.
