It has been six months since police first started discovering bodies of murdered sex workers on Gilgo State Beach on Long Island and yet police have still not found the killer (or killers). And so the Suffolk County police have decided to up their cash reward for any information in the case.

The Suffolk County Crime Stoppers are now offering $25,000 for useful information in the case. That's five times the previous reward offer of $5,000, which was already tied as the highest ever offered in the area (the largest reward ever paid is $2,000, for information related to a homicide case).

"We believe there is information out there that could aid the police department in solving this case," Crime Stoppers Board president Nick Amarr said Thursday [reg. req'd]. "We are hoping this will give someone the incentive to come forward."

The news comes days after relatives of the slain women collected on Gilgo beach last weekend collected to mourn. Reportedly much of the reward comes from private donations.
