Early Sunday morning NYPD officers bravely rescued two West Point cadets who were stranded in a storm on a cliff on Storm King Mountain upstate. And would you know that the boys were ill prepared for the climb? The cadets were reportedly trying to rappel down a rockface on the eastern side of the mountain but got stranded 500 feet up because they didn't have enough rope.

Officers also said the cadets were dressed in nothing but light fleece and baseball caps. "I don't know why anybody would go out and climb a mountain in those extreme conditions," State Police Sgt. David Scott told the Post.

Medic Chris Condon reportedly kept the mood light as he was lowered from a helicopter to help the cadets, telling them "don't go anywhere" to one as the other was hoisted up. The two cadets are in stable condition at Keller Army Medical Center at West Point, but Storm King Fire Chief Jeff Armitage joked of their unpreparedness, "The future leaders of America." The officers who staged the rescue will be recognized by the NYPD at Police Headquarters this afternoon.
