There are lots of things we think of when we mull renting an apartment: craigslist, broker fees, credit checks, security deposits, how much cheaper it is than buying. Not on that list? Neutering. But if The Ludlow in the Lower East Side is any indication, it may soon be. According to the Times, the 243-unit building, home to 68 pets, has an actually kind of awesome a policy that all pets must be neutered.

Beyond making Bob Barker happy, this seems pretty reasonable to us. Less damage to the floors, no crazy animal-in-heat noises and no concerns about what in the world you are going to do with that litter of puppies. Also, better to have a neuter policy than a no-pets one like so many buildings.

And anyway, for us at least a neuter policy probably wouldn't be an issue. Our pets came from the ASPCA with their bits already snipped. But we're curious, does anyone know of any other buildings in town with a neuter rule? We haven't heard of it before.
