After admitting to Tweeting a photograph of his underwear-covered genitals and numerous online (but not offline) relationships of a sexual nature, Rep. Anthony Weiner said that he spoke to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, "She was not happy. Told me as much." Pelosi, in turn, called for a House Ethics inquiry into Weiner's contact with his sexting partners.
Politico reports that Pelosi said, "I am deeply disappointed and saddened about this situation; for Anthony’s wife, Huma, his family, his staff and his constituents. am calling for an Ethics Committee investigation to determine whether any official resources were used or any other violation of House rules occurred." One revelation that was made by a Weiner alleged sexting partner: He called her from his Congressional office phone.
Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee chairman Rep. Steve Israel (D-NY) said, "Congressman Anthony Weiner engaged in a deep personal failure and inappropriate behavior that embarrassed himself, his family, and the House. Ultimately, Anthony and his constituents will make a judgment about his future. To remove all remaining doubt about this situation, I agree with Leader Pelosi’s request that the House Ethics Committee use its authority to begin an investigation."
Weiner said, "I welcome and will fully cooperate with an investigation by the House Ethics Committee. I am deeply sorry to my family, staff and constituents."
